A class of Saudi engineers at King Saud University have created the Middle East's very first SUV and plans are in the pipeline to manufacture around 20,000 vehicles per year
Called the Gazal 1, the 4.8m long SUV designed specifically to endure the climate and terrain of the Gulf countries took two years for the students to complete and was showcased internationally this year at the Geneva Motor Show, although at the time it wasn’t a working prototype. The regional reveal of the Gazal 1 by Saudi ruler King Abdullah yesterday is a full working model.
But the SUV has not been built from scratch by the students who were given the underpinnings of a Mercedes G-Wagon as their canvas. as part of their remit they had to keep the original wheelbase, track, mechanics and interior hard points.
The Gazal 1 is intended to be a saleable product ans has a development budget and marketing plan from the outset, but as yet pricing for hte production version has not been released.
Khaled al-Anqari, the country’s higher education minister, was quoted as saying in daily Arab News that the car “shows we have capable people who can transform ideas into products of high economic value. What is achieved today is a clear proof of the ability of Saudi youth to make innovations and inventions … If they are provided with adequate facilities and given opportunities.”

It looks like a Russian Prototype..nothing about it..
the vehicle would be cheap
impressive…great job!
