» Yas to get water park

According to Dubai local rag Khaleej Times, Aldar Properties – the company behind Yas Marina Circuit and Yas Island developments – has announced constructiion of a new water park on the island. With the first groundbreaking to begin as early as next month, the 16.4 hectare site will consist of 40 different rides and attractions, cost an about $11 billion and include 4 rides created specially for the water park, although no details of whether they’ll have a motorsports theme have been given.

» McLaren to up the pace

McLaren is set to introduce a major car upgrade in time for the British Grand Prix next month. While the team currently sits at the top of the Formula One standings, with Hamilton and Button 1st and 2nd in the drivers’ championship, team boss Martin Whitmarsh has conceeded that Red Bull still has the fastest car: “We won’t stand still. We have a reasonably big upgrade that we are fighting to have for Silverstone, and if that is there then I would be disappointed if it is not a much bigger step than that”.

» 1-Series fire risk

BMW has told its dealers to hold delivery on 1-Series models produced between January 2010 and May 2010 because of a fire risk until a recall can be performed, according to Consumer Reports. The document that was obtained by Consumer Reports states that there is insufficient clearance between the B-pillar and the seat belt tensions, which in the event of a crash, could result in friction that might cause a fire. In addition to the models recalled, certain 2008-2011 1-Series coupes could also be affected.
